A fracture on the track led to travel misery for would-be passengers on the East Coast mainline today (Sunday May 21).
The broken rail at Colton Junction meant trains could not run on the section of the line between Doncaster and York, with replacement services put into use between the two stations.
It led to delays and cancellation of some scheduled LNER and Lumo services, with disruption expected for the rest of the day, while repairs were taking place to the affected section of the line.
LNER said it arranged ticket acceptance at no extra cost with other operators, but many customers were asked to delay their journeys until tomorrow.

The delays posed problems for some of the 5,000 Gateshead fans travelling to Wembley for the club’s FA Trophy Final appearance against Halifax this afternoon.
While a supporter special train operated by Lumo arrived in London following a 40-minute delay, some fans making their way by other operators were said to have been less lucky.
Passengers on early trains scheduled to run on Monday were advised to check on the situation in the morning, by which time it was hoped services would be back to normal.
