A popular North East BBC presenter will be leaving the station after a decade as he concludes his farewell tomorrow.
Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough, former Century, TFM and Metro Radio host, started his exit with a two-part show at BBC Radio Tees last weekend and will conclude his farewell this Sunday (October 29) between 2pm and 4pm.
Goffy had originally planned to leave the station earlier this year and announced his intentions in early 2023.
BBC Radio Tees Managing Editor Dan Thorpe invited him to continue and hit the 10-year milestone of his popular weekend shows before his departure.
Reflecting on his work, he recalled Christmas morning 2016 when Redcar listener Gordon Mogg phoned through live to Goffy’s show to reveal to listeners that he was struggling to face the day ahead – it was the first Christmas that he faced alone after the tragic loss of his long time wife Kath.
She had sadly passed away in the previous June from multiple sclerosis.
Goffy said: “It became instantly apparent that Gordon was struggling to face the day, and the lengthy conversation instantly made the studio lines flash up like a Christmas tree with messages of support from listeners that could hear the horror of the day that Gordon was facing.
‘’We tracked the story through the years and the following year Gordon told us that things were still tough but he felt as though he would cope during Christmas Day 2017.”
On last Sunday’s show, Goffy paid tribute to North East football legend Sir Bobby Charlton who sadly passed away recently.
The final farewell for ‘Goffy at the Weekend’ will air include many reflections of his time on air alongside his loyal listeners.

Goffy said he loved his time on the show and was looking forward to the emotional conclusion.
He said: “It will be hugely emotional but I have no regrets. I’ve had such a magical time with my lovely listeners and so many inspirational moments over the last decade – the brutal lockdown period only managed to bond us together even more.
“The endless charities that we have been able to support both on and off air has been a joy too. I’m just so pleased that I stayed on to complete the ten-year anniversary achievement following my chat with my boss Dan”
